January 2011

1: How do we know you?

I met Patrick at many parties in the 80′s, when my husband, Peter, daughter, Samantha and I returned from five years of living in London. His warm smile and engaging personality made us instant friends!

2: What is your latest project?

My latest project is my book, NEW YORK PARTIES: PRIVATE VIEWS, recently published by Rizzoli. It offers an inside peek at glamorous events hosted by savvy taste makers like Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Evelyn and Leonard Lauder, Jamie Drake and Campion Platt.  It is in the third printing!

3: Where are you living?

I live in Manhattan, the most exciting city in the world, and in Southampton, my favorite peaceful retreat.

4: What don’t we know about you?

You may not know that I am addicted to dark chocolate coffee beans, cinnamon gum, Starbuck’s Light Expresso Frapuccinos and reading late at night.

5: What is your favorite travel destination?

My favorite travel destinations are St. Barths and Paris for fabulous food, magnificent views and great times, as well as Santa Monica, where I love staying at Shutters and visiting with my daughter and her family. Nothing beats a walk along the beach towards Malibu as the sun rises over the Pacific.

6: What inspires you?

I am inspired by beauty, inner and outer, as well as by unexpected acts of kindness.

7: If not yourself, who would you be?

I admire Margaret Mead, the great cultural anthropologist, and Marcel Proust and Henry James, the writers. All three succeeded in capturing snapshots of their times. They seized the ephemeral and made a lasting record.

8: What book is your bible?

This year’s favorite book was THE INVISIBLE BRIDGE. It was moving, disturbing and romantic.

9: What is your favorite word?

My favorite word is “Yes!” I believe in accepting new challenges, new friendships, new invitations, new paths.

10: Who is your biggest hero?

My biggest hero is my father. He is 93, meets life head on and always thinks positive. He’s my role model.

11: How would you define success?

Success, for me, is about doing new things, taking chances and finding balance. Writing books, lecturing and traveling have opened up new worlds. Being with my family and working for my charities keeps me balanced. Taking 4 mile walks in the park every morning gives me time to breathe and to reflect.

12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?

What’s the secret of happiness? Taking time to smell the roses!
