Who Am I ?
An Introduction to JEREMY STYLES
1: Who am I?
I’m Jeremy James Styles.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
To keep food in my belly and a roof over my head I get people drunk at a bar/restaurant. I am currently working on not needing to do that to keep food in my belly and a roof over my head by playing music with my band Pearl & The Beard. I am currently working on a commercial I directed, and launching my other band Worship Service.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I’m originally from California. I am going on tour with Pearl and the Beard around the country and eventually around the world.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
This might sound cliché and cheesier than Wisconsin, but my mom, Nancy Styles. She gave me the tools and encouragement we all desperately need in order to create a world in which you are happy to live in.
5: What book is your bible?
Favorite Books: Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut, Women by Charles Bukowski, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, and the book that kept me in New York when I wanted to leave–because this place can be colder than a witch’s teet in a brass bra–was Here is New York by E.B. White
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love seeing other people’s weaknesses and knowing that I’m not alone in this world. I love double-stuffed oreos, peanuts, my friends, my mom, my girlfriend, steak. I HATE moving, not being able to pet dogs and cats because I am allergic to them.
7: What is your raison d’être?
Not sure yet. I feel that’s answered posthumously.
8: What is your favorite color?
Oatmeal Grey for t-shirts.
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
Spawn. Also, Dr. Manhattan from the Watchmen.
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
I’m not big on large crowds unless there is a stage between us. I get claustrophobic a bit, and often feel like cattle, so I prefer quieter places that not many people go to, though that is increasingly difficult because if I know about it then a thousand other people know about it. I like Gotham City Lounge in Bushwick because it is NOT a hotspot. If someone turned me into a bar it might look like that. You need a buzzer to get in, there are comic book characters everywhere, there’s booze, a movie screen, and it’s currently closed for renovation.
11: What turns you on?
Sexually, I’m sort of an equal opportunity employer and my tastes run the gamut. I’ve felt like an owl sometimes just turning my head all the time walking around this city. Some days something will get me harder than superman’s kneecaps and then the next day it doesn’t even flip my skirt up. If you mean like 60′s “turn you on” then like, cool movies and books, man. Snap snap.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
Do you want to get a drink later?
Jeremy Styles is a musician. He is one-third of the band Pearl & The Beard, and he also plays in the band Worship Service.
