Who Am I ?
An Introduction to ERIK MEIER
1: Who am I?
Erik Meier: 23-years-old, was raised in Monmouth County New Jersey and have resided in the New York Metropolitan area for the past 4 years. Overall, I define myself as a creative worker.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
I am a graphic designer by trade and hobby, and a singer/songwriter by fulfillment. Currently, I’m working on a full album release with my band and friends under the pseudo-name Bird Courage. This will be a 10 track release for digital download and bonus tracks for physical copies and 7″ vinyl pressed. We plan to be finished recording in the next month and are scheduling the official release for sometime in late May.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I was raised in Howell, New Jersey, for 13 years of my life, supported by my parents for another 5, and left after another 3. I have no idea where I’m going, but it’s certainly not backwards and I’m more open to believe now that it’s not entirely a physical journey.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
I find heroes in the friends I’ve made over the last couple of years and in local musicians and artists that literally do starve from time to time to do what they have to to get by, and would STILL open doors and cupboards to a fellow, ambitious creator.
5: What book is your bible?
Well, I have terrible attention when it comes to books, but for what it’s worth Chinese Takeout (Nersesian) has become one of my favorites and I’m on copy two, due to spine damage and stains.
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love humans, malicious and kind alike. We are a complex race, but I feel there are two driving forces that lead to power. Love and Fear (channeling hate). The difference is with Love comes fulfillment and power within our own selves. I relate this and tie it into my music…it’s what I love, but it’s part of a bigger message.
7: What is your raison d’être?
Had to “Google” that term! I’m sure my reason for existence is to make something of my music as part of a message of love. Sure it has been done before a million times over…but isn’t that just the fucking bee’s knees?!
8: What is your favorite color?
I’m a fan of baby blues, but only next to dark browns. Navy blue is a regular for me.
9: Who is your favorite superhero or comic?
Batman. But never Val Kilmer.
10: What is your favorite NYC hotspot?
Well, I spend a lot of time in Chelsea on warm days. A bulk of my time is spent underground busking however, so it’s become something of a sanctuary for me.
11: What turns you on?
Pretty and creative, but genuine.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
When is the last time you questioned your purpose in this life?
Erik Meier moved to New York a few years ago with Intentions of graduating college, becoming a graphic designer and pursuing a career. While working one day at the GAP, a girl discovered Erik’s voice and music and introduced him to a DIY artist scene in Bushwick, the Potion Collective.
