Who Am I ?

JONATHAN GRASSI

An Introduction to JONATHAN GRASSI

March 2011

1: Who am I?

My name is Jonathan Grassi. I am a photographer.

2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?

I am working on a series of open-ended narratives that investigate human relationships. I am also making a series of portraits of interesting people that have crossed my path.

3: Where are you from and where are you going?

I was born in Norway, Maine. I would like to be somewhere where it’s always spring.

4: Who is your biggest hero?

Freddy Krueger.

5: What book is your bible?

The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams.

(YES, I am copying Marie Havens, BUT IT IS TRUE!)

6: What are some things you love?  And some things you hate?

Love: Excess, touching, summer, happiness.

Hate: Excess, touching, summer, happiness.

7: What is your raison d’être?

To experience new things.

8: What is your favorite color?

Hunter Green.

9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?

I grew up pretty attached to Wolverine from X-Men. It must be the claws, quick healing ability, bad attitude and the Canadian decent.

10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?

Spain Restaurant is one of my favorite places for a drink with friends because they serve free tapas and the waiters are old, rude and dressed in red tuxedos.

11: What turns you on?

Age, neck tattoos, red hair, and wet t-shirts.

12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?

Q: Are you single?

A: Yes.

Jonathan Grassi was born in Norway, Maine 1980.  He received a BFA in photography from Parsons School of Design in 2002. He has exhibited his work at Apex Art, Real Art Ways and The Brooklyn Museum of Art. Grassi currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. He creates familiar, yet unsettling scenes that confront vulnerability.
