Who Am I ?

An Introduction to ARABELLE SICARDI

April 2011

1: Who am I?

A feminist fashion blogger who sometimes writes and styles for magazines. It basically means I just post an excessive amount of cats and pretty underwear alongside photoshoots I’ve participated in or contributed to on my tumblr. I am a cliché.

2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?

I just did a photoshoot collaboration with, a luxury retail website. My hair still has the hairsprayed curls from it. I am going to keep it in as long as possible, but I am horrible with a curling iron and I look hot. Other than that, I’m not doing anything in particular. Just contributing to magazines, making zines, being as lazy, but simultaneously as productive as possible.

3: Where are you from and where are you going?

I’m from Taiwan, I guess, but I was raised in Jersey City. I want to stay here until I can work abroad at a magazine. METAL Magazine is my mission and life goal.

4: Who is your biggest hero?

I have no heroes; they tend to lead to disappointment–but Rei Kawakubo is my favorite designer and changed my life, so I guess she is my only hero, besides myself. I realize that sounds egotistical but you really should be your own hero, I think.

5: What book is your bible?

Style Deficit Disorder. It’s by one of my favorite people Tiffany Godoy, a pivotal figure in my life.

6: What are some things you love?  And some things you hate?

I love: honesty, compassion, and a nice haircut. I hate ignorance and the word ‘faggot’. I hate people denying their privilege. I like cupcakes.

7: What is your raison d’être?

I want to do what I want and get paid for it, and be happy and maybe change the world a little bit. It doesn’t matter if I’m gonna be in the history books, I just want to help make the world a little better for girls who are scared or angry or mad. I get a lot of emails about tough things like coming out or ‘what does feminism mean’ and ‘how does it fit into fashion’ and cultural fetishism; it blows me away that they’d even ask me things about that, so I help when I can.

8: What is your favorite color?

Green and purple.

9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?

I only read the Star Trek comics, really. There are a lot in Goodwill for a quarter, so I read them on the train.

10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?

Ippudo. I have wet dreams about their noodles.

11: What turns you on?

Intelligence, pretty underwear, smudgy eye makeup, and sweetness.

12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?

Q: What is your favorite cupcake flavor?

A: Chocolate with mint frosting right now. I’m eating it and it’s getting all over my keyboard. Keepin’ it real.

Arabelle Sicardi is a fashion blogger who likes cats, plaid, bathtubs, girls, and politics. Sometimes she writes things for cool magazines like FutureClaw or Pocketto, and sometimes she likes to dress up for other magazines, and other times she does nothing at all.
