Who Am I ?

CLAY BAKKUM

An Introduction to CLAY BAKKUM

April 2011

1: Who am I?

Clay Bakkum: A Canadian, renegade artist/filmmaker transplanted in New York City

2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?

I recently graduated from the film program at Lee Strasberg Theater & Film Institute. Currently, I am producing pieces for my debut art show in the fall and I am the photographer for the fashion blog Live Glam or Die. I have been doing freelance work in film/photography and I am also developing my second short film.

3: Where are you from and where are you going?

From: Stony Mountain, Manitoba, Canada.

Currently: Sticking it out in the Upper East Side, Manhattan.

Going: Up.

4: Who is your biggest hero?

My dog Otto. I can never be in a bad mood when I’m with him.

5: What book is your bible?

Banksy’s Wall and Piece. It reminds me why I started painting–because I had to. Painting is how I digest the things I see, good or bad.

6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?

Love: Friends/family, color, Ingolf Lake, Warhol and Banksy.

Hate: Visas, not the credit card, but immigration.

7: What is your raison d’être?

To create in all forms at all times.

8: What is your favorite color?

I’ll cheat and say white, only because white is the blending of all colors.

9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?

Batman. It was actually my first word. I find him the most inspiring because he was an ordinary man with no super powers, just a thirst for change. I think he lives in the White House now.

10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?

I love relaxing on the Highline and near the fire pit at Union Pool in Brooklyn.

11: What turns you on?

Movie trailers, fuzzy bass in a rock song, people with drive, and travel.

12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?

Q: If you could get rid of one advancement in technology, what would it be?

A: I don’t know what I would get rid of. I wish that people would talk more. I can’t remember the last time someone called me on the phone. Sure, I can get texts, email, tweets, pokes, and whatever else, but how about we communicate face to face and not through websites and applications?
