Dear Diary,
WOW! What a crazy night! I have just returned home from a “surprise” party for my dear friend Lady GaGa (yes, THE Lady GaGa), in celebration of her receiving the 2011 “CFDA Fashion Icon Award.” I mean, what a magical moment! We’ve been friends for over 4 years and watching her meteoric rise, from brunette obscurity to the top of the platinum pop charts…it’s just really fucking awesome, insane and inspiring! I remember the days of her glued together outfits she’d make with Lady Starlight, when she had NO budget and just a million dollars worth of dreams. Now, fast forward 4 years, and she’s the most famous and powerful celebrity in the world AND CFDA’s Fashion Icon?! Whaaaaat!?!? YES!!! The fact that she has maintained and valued the friendships she made before all the madness is truly a testament to her character.
When Nicola Formichetti (GaGa’s stylist and creative director of Theirry Mugler) told me that he was plotting a surprise party with all her friends and family, I was like: “Duh?! Of course I’ll be there.” Thrown at the ultra chic and exclusive Boom Boom Room, located on the roof of the Standard Hotel, the dress code was, of course, black tie. Which for me meant laminated ostrich feathers and an oversize strand of pearls. Breedlove (who was also on the guest list) struggled a bit with this request and decided on acid wash jeans and an offensive pastel Bill Blass blazer from the 80’s! Compared to his normal attire of a sweatsuit…that IS black tie! The fact that GaGa showed up wearing a sheer body stocking, pasties and a G-string is a clear indication of why we’re all friends! Ha!
The moment Breedlove and I arrived, we were greeted by rows of chorus girls with trays of free Veuve…and I knew I was home. My outfits always look better when there is a free flute (or 5) of champagne involved. We immediately made our way over to the DJ booth to have a kiki with Lady Bunny, who is always hysterically sarcastic and a glorious vision in sequins. We lounged, we laughed, we drank, and there was a dance off to Judas Priest and KISS that occurred as well (thanks to DJ White Shadow). The highlight of the evening was when Patti LaBelle appeared and proceeded to serenade GaGa and all the attendees with a soulful rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”!!! What a surprise!!
The guest list was only the crème de la crème of the fashion elite and NYC glitteratti. My god, everyone who was anyone was in attendance: Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, the Proenza Schouler boys Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, supermodel Karolina Kurkova, artist Terence Koh, actor Gerard Butler, actress Liv Tyler, Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, NYC nightlife icon Ladyfag, The Dirty Pearls’ frontman Tommy London, The Drunk Diet author Lüc Carl, trumpet master/crooner Brian Newman…I mean, I could just keep name dropping. It was that intense.
Well, I unfortunately had to bounce early (if 2am can be considered early). I need to be bright eyed and bushy tailed because I’m getting my photo taken by Ellen Von Unwerth tomorrow for CANDY Magazine (Or should I say today!?!? Yikes!). 8am call time and I need to be up by 6am (dear God!). I’m usually just going to bed at that hour. Beauty sleep, sweetie. Beauty sleep.
