Who Am I ?
1: Who am I?
I’m Derek Mega. I’m whoever you say I am.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
Right now I make music videos. I’m a photographer and a cinematographer, and I specialize in visuals intended to be paired with music. I’m continuously adding to a series on my website, in which I tackle the themes of Pop Art philosophy and phenomena within culture and media using original videos to already published pop and electronic music. The series is called War On Pop.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I’m currently coming to you from your computer screen. And I’m not going anywhere.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
Meatball parmigiana or buffalo chicken, depending on the day.
5: What book is your bible?
Ways of Seeing by John Berger.
6: What are some things you love? Some things you hate?
I love New York. I grew up just outside Manhattan and always wanted to make the leap to the other side. I’ve lived here for a year now and it’s been everything I could have asked for.
I love pop music. Commercial music has acquired a bad stigma recently, but it’s on it’s way back up. And of course, pop is, has been, and always will be the pinnacle of music. The principles and philosophies behind pop are the main themes in my independent visual work. It’s quite a dense and complex subject matter, skillfully hiding behind false frivolity. I’m very interested in working with visual production for extremely mainstream music.
I hate the notion that there are no new ideas in art or innovation.
7: What is your raison d’être?
What do you think?
8: What is your favorite color?
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
Wherever Darian Darling is.
11: What turns you on?
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
