Who Am I ?
An Introduction to MONICA LOCASCIO
1: Who am I?
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
Since moving to NYC I’ve worked at PAPER Magazine as Production Director, art-writer for papermag.com and Designer for EXTRAEXTRA Creative. Currently, I’m working with artist Ben Finer to curate his solo show that is opening at FUSE Gallery in November of this year. I’m also working on a terrifyingly giant project that will allow me to combine my love for the arts and my desire to give back to the planet and humanity; it’s still pseudo-secret so check back with me in a couple of months.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I’m what “they” call a “3rd Culture Child”: born in Saudi Arabia, moved to Malaysia, Morocco, and Austria. Then moved to America for college. Now I’m “from” NYC. I go wherever my life happens to takes me, I always say: “If you see a train, jump on it. You might not get to where you think you’re going but it will definitely take you somewhere.” I know it’s a little obvious, but I fully believe in taking big chances on whatever opportunities life throws at you.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
I have four: Peggy Guggenheim, Sol Lewitt, Jacque Fresco and my Mom Deb LoCascio.
5: What book is your bible?
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
LOVE: Art, the beach, really spicy food, walk-dancing.
HATE: “Because I said so”, inconsiderate sidewalk walkers, bubble tea.
7: What is your raison d’être?
I haven’t figured that out yet.
8: What is your favorite color?
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
Beach 89, Far Rockaway.
11: What turns you on?
Enthusiasm, ambition, and tall boys.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
What inspired you to become interested in what you’re interested in?
Monica Locascio, the child of a music teacher and a computer teacher, stays as enthusiastic as possible while working hard, hoping to having a positive influence on the world and those around her. She’s not afraid of extra-curricular activities and tends to be working on at least three projects outside of her day job at any given time. She loves to sing. She’s a recovering print junky. Locascio previously designed a jewlery line called M. Kara and co-published Overspray Magazine. She co-authored a book entilted STICKERS: From Punk Rock to Contemporary Art published by Rizzoli. She collects postcards (she already has thousands) and baby alligator heads from Florida. She is a curator for several galleries and private collections.
