Who Am I ?
1: Who am I?
New York City’s newest favorite blonde bombshell.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
I’m a burlesque starlet and baby designer for the Zand Collective.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I’m originally from southern Georgia–the heart of the Bible belt. I had a very isolated, sheltered childhood, which I feel allowed me to develop a personality that’s very different from most kids my age. Instead of taking my cues about women’s sexuality from pop culture (I didn’t watch a Britney Spears video until 2009), I obsessively read everything I could get my hands on from a very young age. By sixteen, I was very familiar with the Marquis de Sade and Anais Nin and had formed a strong opinion that women should be aggressively in control of their own sexuality.
As I’ve come to learn about more contemporary icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Madonna, I’ve only become more convinced that my path through life as an artist is to use my talents in performance and design to demonstrate that it’s not a sin to be a sex symbol. I’m going around the world as a performer–the Zand Collective just returned from Vienna’s Life Ball with Susanne Bartsch, and in my previous incarnation as a fetish model I was constantly flying from one city to the next to participate in other artists’ visions.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
I can’t say that’s something I ever consider. I find many people inspirational, but I also think they’re all failed in some way.
5: What book is your bible?
Changes from time to time. When I was thirteen, I read Gone with the Wind nine or ten times. I wanted to be the kind of woman who could carry her loved ones through any crisis while maintaining her sex appeal. Now I’d say I’m driven to give life the kind of magic and glamour you find when you open Drawing Blood. I want my art to make people feel like they’ve just fallen in love for the last time. Plus, I’m really into homoeroticism.
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love pale girls in red lipstick and false lashes, boys in eyeliner, Christian Louboutin (especially his collection with David Lynch), black fur, latex clothing, tight lacing, good sex, good coffee, dancing, and sickeningly sweet martinis.
I hate mundane aesthetics and ordinary lives. I am actively upset by the sheer amount of people who settle for living a life of white noise that goes birth-school-work-marriage-breeding-death with no creative passion or greater purpose.
7: What is your raison d’être?
To be happy. The things that make me most perfectly myself–creating, performance, deliberate glamour–are damn hard to do if you’re miserable. Pain may look good on other people, but crying in a full face is never a good look.
8: What is your favorite color?
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
ON TOP is my current favorite party. It’s on Tuesdays at Le Bain in the Standard Hotel, from 10pm to 4am. 444 W 13th st. Bring a swim suit.
11: What turns you on?
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
Lately I’m always asking myself how quickly I can drop my waist from 18″ to 16″.
