Who Am I ?

October 2011

1: Who am I?

Alsenio Espinal, a freelance makeup artist and fabulous person living in NYC.

2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?

I’m currently building my portfolio and expanding my network, and working with photographers, models, and agencies. I also assist makeup artist Lisa Aahron from Kate Ryan.

3: Where are you from and where are you going?

I was born and raised in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, but my family is from Puerto Rico. In the next few years I want to be working, done with school, being creatively challenged, and happy.

4: Who is your biggest hero?

My biggest hero would be Marilyn Monroe. She is a beauty icon and such an inspiration, I always felt connected to her in many ways. I keep images of her everywhere I work. I have read all her biographies, watched all of her movies. She is the epitome of what it is to be super feminine and confident with your sexuality.

5: What book is your bible?

Bobbi Brown: Makeup Manual was the book that I was reading at age thirteen in Barnes and Noble and going home to experiment on myself what I had read. It’s a really great book to read and learn about cosmetics and a step-by-step guide for a modern woman is hard to find.

6: What are some things you love?  And some things you hate?

I love when women embrace makeup. Then they see how it impacts their life in the most discreet ways.  While I have no problem with a bare face, I do dislike when people are pessimists about cosmetics and write it off as superficial and irrelevant.

7: What is your raison d’être?

To make people feel beautiful. To be an artist. To live a life of pleasure.

8: What is your favorite color?

I really like bright colors especially with makeup; it’s all about experimenting and having fun with it. It comes right off, so have fun throw on that coral lipstick, try that purple eye shadow, and swipe on a deeper blush.

9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?

Wonderwoman. Need I say more.

10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?

I love the Meatpacking District of Manhattan, I frequent 1Oak & Avenue. I’m also digging the new Dream Downtown Hotel, the PHD Lounge & Electric Room.

11: What turns you on?

12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?

I would ask: Where do you see yourself in five years?

Alsenio Espinal is a freelance makeup artist in New York City working with photographer’s models, and agencies. With an emphasis on sculpted facial features and that “glow” that every woman wants, he is making his way to the top of the beauty industry.
