1: Who am I?

I am only one man.

2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?

I am the founder and director of Anonymous Gallery. Anonymous recently opened two new exhibitions in New York, one in collaboration with curator Peter Makebish and the Bowery Hotel and another at Wooster Street Social Club. Anonymous Gallery is heading to Los Angeles for Art Platform Art Fair where we’ll be showing the work of Ed Ruscha, Greg Lamarche, Shelter Serra, Eric White, and Megan Whitmarsh. From LA I fly to Mexico City where the gallery is finishing renovations on a new permanent gallery space. We’ll be inaugurating the new gallery with an exhibition featuring artwork from artists including Richard Prince, Tom Sachs, Aaron Young, Agathe Snow, David Ellis, and Hanna Liden.

3: Where are you from and where are you going?

I’m from Madison, Wisconsin. Going up.

4: Who is your biggest hero?

My father.

5: What book is your bible?
Collecting Contemporary.

6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?

Love: Exploring, learning, randomness, family, and friends. Hate: The sound of people smacking while they chew food!

7: What is your raison d’être?

Life’s adventure.

8: What is your favorite color?

Blue.

9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?

Spider-Man or Wolverine.

10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?

The Jane Ballroom.

11: What turns you on?

Art, sales, beautiful eyes, confidence, passion, dedication.

What do you want to be remembered for?

Joseph I. Henrikson is the founder and director of Anonymous Gallery Inc. Joseph is responsible for establishing the gallery in September of 2008, with the goal of providing a platform for contemporary art, pubic art, and community involvement. He continues to oversee managerial aspects of the gallery as well as artist development, client and critical development, curation, and programming.

With business partner Andrew Lockhart, Joseph has developed operational, marketing, and curative standards for exhibitions performed at the gallery, offsite and in institutions world-wide. In addition, he has fostered strategic relationships with organizations such as The Bicycle Film Festival, The Standard Hotel, Museo De La Ciudad De Mexico, The New Museum, The Whitney Museum, and the MoMA. Anonymous Gallery’s exhibitions have featured work from renowned artists such as Andy Warhol, Donald Baechler, Jean Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Jonas Mekas, Kenny Scharf, and Agathe Snow. The gallery represents globally recognized artists such as Ronnie Cutrone, Shelter Serra, Maya Hayuk, Greg Lamarche, Romon Yang, and David Ellis.
