1: Who am I?
I’m Elijah Marain. I’m young and it irritates me.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
I design and manufacture my own platform shoes. I take a pear of heels, tear the heel off and make them heel-less platform shoes. I extend the height of the shoe by carving wood to the shoe’s shape, drilling it together and covering the shoe in vinyl, glitter, patent leather, hair extensions, latex, etc.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I’m From Bergen County, NJ. I’m going to London within the next two years to exceed in my shoe design and creation.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
I’m quite the Little Monster. Gaga is an obsession. Love the woman to death. Hero, because she truly means it when she says she won’t stop fighting for equality until it spreads like a virus throughout the nation.
5: What book is your bible?
Letters to a Young Poet by Anna Rilke.
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love hair in fashion. Something about a gown made of hair or a hat, sunglasses, shoes. I love it. Charlie le Mindu specializes in that; he’s one of my favorite designers from France. I hate the sound of knocking on the door, it drives me insane. Also, frozen dinners. Nothing worse than that!
7: What is your raison d’être?
8: What is your favorite color?
Black–it’s typically all I wear.
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
Catwoman? She would wear those hot one pieces that I would always want to wear but I couldn’t, because I was a boy. Wouldn’t make a difference to me now!
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
Anywhere, as long as I have a cigarette.
11: What turns you on?
Just about anything. I’m young; what doesn’t turn me on?
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the
What does codependency mean to you? I’d answer: “It’s all Scheiße.”
Elijah is eighteen, from NJ, and very determined to change the way people walk on the streets with his heel-less creations. He designs and creates his own heels, not from scratch but takes a pair of heels and enhances them to his liking. Elijah believes that a shoe can not only define a personality, but express power, as a person and an individual. “I believe that when somebody is to wear a heel; man or woman, they become not another person, but a super-version of what they already are.” Elijah loves New York City and is there a lot purchasing shoes and raiding the thrifts to create what he feels is the future of fashionable footwear. He also loves partying with friends and following Gaga around whenever she’s in the hometown. Living life on the edge and not caring for judgement is what he believes living is all about.
