January 2012

1: Who am I?

I am a girl who likes to create an inner world of lovliness and dreams through the medium of music.

2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?

I am an LA-based indie pop singer. I play piano and guitar, and I dabble in a large assortment of other ones. I write what is in my heart or what has been placed upon in from experiencing life with those around me. From all these musings, I make and record my music. Music is such a soul-to-soul experience and I feel very privileged to get to do what I most love to do. I recently released my EP, Before The Dawn, which is a melding of poppy romanticism, ethereal hauntings, and heartbreak. I am currently working on a collaboration video series project of cover songs. The video series has been such an interesting process as we’ve been collaborating with all sorts of creative minds and you never know what the finished product will look like until everything is said and done! I love the culmination of everyone’s ideas. It makes for a very lovely and unusual ending.

3: Where are you from and where are you going?

I am from a sweet town in Northern California that has many trees for one to climb and many dirt paths for one to wander. From there, I have moved onward and continually forward. I believe one should never look back as the past is meant as a lesson to be learned from and not a wistful wish for change that can no longer be made. So let’s keep on moving!

4: Who is your biggest hero?

My mom. She taught me what it meant to live each day to the fullest.

5: What book is your bible?

Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree.” So simple but what a beautiful story. To give and give of oneself for the completely unselfish betterment of another. Such a beautiful and rare thing. I would like to live that way more often.

6: What are some things you love?  And some things you hate?

Things I love: a kiss, sunsets, earl grey tea, my sister, faith, Chopin, laughter, simplicity, opulence.

Things I hate: dirty socks, a weak cup of coffee, mean people, injustice, the wet blanket of fear, ET.

7: What is your raison d’être?

To become more of the person I will be at the end of my life. I hope she is a very love-filled, life-giving, hope-inspiring person.

8: What is your favorite color?

The color of morning light on my curtains.

9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?

I have always had an envy for his cape, so I’d have to say Batman.

10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?

Believe it or not, I fly out this week for my first trip to the Big Apple which I am ecstatic about, so you tell me what yours is so I can visit it, please!

11: What turns you on?

Coffee, preferably of a Costa Rican origin. With the right brew, I am on and cannot stop until everything on my to-do list is finito!

12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?

Do you take cream and sugar with that? Yes and yes. Check please!

Growing up in the audience of her parents’ rock band, Stevie was immediately introduced to life as a musician. Merging the sounds of her parents rock band with her classical training in opera, Stevie has found her home in music, creating a hopeless-romantic-indie-pop-british sound. “I’ve always been a bit of an Anglophile. It was that love for Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters and a good cup of tea that got me into writing this music.” Scott has already experienced an indie recording deal, recording sessions at Paramount studios, and a promotional deal through Myspace. At the budding age of 25, she is ready to be catapulted into the ranks of her contemporaries. “I think it took me awhile to feel comfortable in my own skin. But I’m finally in a place where the creativity, the music, it feels so natural and right. I love this stage of getting to rest the music on new ears, new hearts. And it’s for those ears and hearts that I keep doing what I’m doing.” Her EP, Before The Dawn, can be found on iTunes. Her recent video series, produced by Runaway Projects, can be found on YouTube, and you can follow Stevie on twitter to hear her daily musings.
