Who Am I ?
1: Who am I?
Scott Mirkin, 41. Born and raised in Philadelphia. I have owned my company, ESM Productions, here for fifteen years. I want to bring as much entertainment to the world as possible.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
I am a live event and television producer. My company specializes in planning and producing high profile events, meetings, and television productions. I am currently Executive Producer of the Philly 4th of July Jam, starring The Roots and guests. It is the largest free concert in America.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I am from Philadelphia, going to the world stage via live events and music specials.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
My dad, he has given me the basic tools in life. The rest has been up to me to learn, and earn. That’s a valuable lesson; anyone can make it if they work hard.
5: What book is your bible?
I do not really have much time to sit and enjoy books, and I do not have any book in mind that I use for guidance or self help. In my free time, when I get any, I am a big movie guy.
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love the reactions of a live audience, raw talent, and creative individuals. I hate pretentious people.
7: What is your raison d’être?
To design, create, and produce live experiences for large audiences. To give people an escape from the day-to-day. I was put on this earth to produce!
8: What is your favorite color?
Black on black; I’m a typical production guy.
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
Superman; he has it all going on, and we all know there is no such thing as kryptonite.
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
It’s hard to pick one hot spot in NYC because the city has so much to offer. I enjoy spending a lot of time in SoHo. There is nothing cooler than a party at John Varvatos in SoHo.
11: What turns you on?
Great music, great food, great lighting, and of course my wife.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
Q: What is the future of live entertainment and television?
A: I think the future is bright; people love to attend live events. They love to experience them again and again via “digital media” of some sort, and that excites me. It is a world stage.
Scott Mirkin thrives on live events and the fast pace of managing multiple moving parts on deadline. The award-winning producer prides himself on his meticulous planning and operational efficiency tools where mass audiences experience an unprecedented event experience, whether they are witnessing the President speak or watching The Roots jam to over half a million fans.
Mirkin decided to open his own event production company, ESM Productions, in 1996. He quickly developed a strong working knowledge of how to produce large-scale events, and his technical background gained him the respect of the production unions. He is one of the few producers to be nationally recognized by IATSE.
