Who Am I ?
1: Who am I?
My street art and DJ name is ‘Dare Hare’.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on a group-curated show entitled “Spring Break.” The other artists include Atelier van Lieshout, Jason Gringler. The show, curated by Natalie Kovacs, opens on March 6th at the Old Skool on Prince and Mott St. I’m also preparing for a group show for the opening of the Memorial Museum in September with collaborator Jim Budman.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I am from Los Angeles. I am spending a lot of time in NYC and want to take my street art and music around the world and into the music festival circuit.
Lightning in a Bottle, here we come! I am a member of the Yay Life Tribe!–a bunch of cool, hybrid critters bringing fun to the world as an ethic of consciousness.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
In the art world my heroes are JR, Shephard Fairey, and Banksy. In the music world they are Panda Bear of Animal Collective, Danger Mouse, and Deadmau5.
5: What book is your bible?
Spiritually speaking, my favorite book at the moment is by Wayne Dyer and is called The Shift. It deals with converting your lifestyle from one of ambitious greed to one of meaningful creativity. I am currently reading Bob Dylan’s autobiography as well. Also I love poetry and I’m reading Allen Ginsberg’s stuff while I am here.
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love to create on all levels–love, art, music. I don’t like anything that deters that path. I love collaborating with fellow artists. The concept of our collective, Light Pollution, is to bring artists together and to work off of each others’ synergy.
7: What is your raison d’être?
I want to inspire people to create and live free. This should also be a way to give back to society without money being the identity factor. To try to make people laugh at inappropriate moments and to find the humor in every little tiny morsel of life.
8: What is your favorite color?
I am really into the color green at the moment. Huck is making me a green Hare mask and I have green Puma’s and I love green spray paint. My friend Jules Muck paints green people. How cool would it be to be green? It feels so fresh, healthy, and sexy. Trees love it too.
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
Right now Dare Hare is channeling Batman. The mask, the mystery. Also I have a sidekick. She is a turtle woman. Her name is NiNJax.
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
Dare Hare likes to eat red eggs with Jon Hamm at Madame Wong’s. He also likes to drink and smoke with January Jones and gangster at Nurse Betty’s.
11: What turns you on?
I am turned on by color dripping from walls and froggy females dripping from ponds.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
I am giving back some proceeds to The Dennis Leary Firefighters’ Foundation, thanks to Emmelyn Quinn. Shout out to George Lewis Jr. of Twin Shadow; Let’s hang soon, and I hope you use Jim’s photo image for your next album cover! Special thanks to Raymond at Jonathan Levine Gallery, Daniel Salin, artist JR, Conor Harrington, Alex Gross, Josh Keyes, Evolve, Kevin Gabriel, Joe Zdaa and Jim Budman.
