Who Am I ?
1: Who am I?
This is considered the most fundamental question that can lead to radical enlightenment in the yoga tradition. The short answer is MC Yogi, a yoga-inspired hip-hop artist devoted to crushing preconceived notions and assumptions.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
Yoga, and my current project is called Pilgrimage, an album based on my journey to a sacred mountain in India called Arunachala.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I formed inside of an egg, and will continue to grow until I’m able to fly.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
Anyone who throws off the shackles of thought and follows their heart in order to do what they love.
5: What book is your bible?
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
My wife, my dog, my family on all sides. Music. Food. Nature.
I find that hate takes to much energy to sustain and I’d rather use that energy to create art and music for people to enjoy.
7: What is your raison d’être?
To give love.
8: What is your favorite color?
Orange, when the sun reflects on a still lake as it’s being swallowed by the horizon.
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
I grew up reading insane amounts of comic books, so that is perhaps the hardest question so far. Spiderman for his flexibility, Cyclops for his blazing vision, Captain Kirk for his swagger and commitment to his ship, and Professor X for his brilliant mind and compassionate heart. So if I could combine all of those, throw in Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda–that’s my version of an ideal yogi.
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
I personally love to hang out with the musicians in the subway. To me it’s very real and genuine, no hype, glitz, or glamour–just straight up music for the people.
11: What turns you on?
Music that comes from a culture rooted in the earth. Art that reflects the vast landscape of the human psyche.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
What is your prime directive?
Similar to Star Trek, we are in need of an underlying ethos or guiding principal. Mine is simply knowing that everyone is going to die. What is the best way to maximize this day, how can I give the most love and in the process challenge and surprise myself?
