Who Am I ?

May 2012

1: Who am I?

Alexander Mendoza–or, just “Mendoza”.

2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?

I make the beats with Mik and handle all the business behind The Dean’s List. Generation X, released on April 3rd, 2012.

3: Where are you from and where are you going?

I am from Framingham, Massachusetts, living in Boston, and I will go where ever the music takes me.

4: Who is your biggest hero?

My mom, Batman, Beethoven, Vivaldi.

5: What book is your bible?

I really only read finance books, business books, and music books; not really a bible kind of guy. Inspirationally I listen to music, interviews, and speeches from people who have made an impact in history.

6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?

I love learning from the more experienced. Although I may not agree with what everyone has to say, but I always make sure to take what I can and use it to my own advantage. I also love Vegas, March Madness, and of course, my love Kate Beckinsale and Adriana Lima–but don’t tell Kate.

7: What is your raison d’être?

To make music that will impact people’s lives, and make a difference in the world. I also wish to inspire others who are not making music, to do so.

8: What is your favorite color?

Depends. Black, navy blue, red, green, white, grey.

9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?

Batman. Spiderman is cool too, but his girlfriend isn’t very attractive.

10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?

I love a lot of the restaurants. Scores is a cool spot.

11: What turns you on?

Hearing amazing music for the first time.

12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?

Will Generation X win a Grammy? Yes.

The Dean’s List is an eclectic trio of musicians whose versatile sound appeals to fans indie music to electronic to hip-hop. Comprised of MC/songwriter Sonny Shotz, producer and manager Alexander Mendoza, and producer/engineer Mik Beats, the group arrived on the scene in late 2010 with the release of their debut mixtape “Undeclared.” Following the critical acclaim of the first project, The Dean’s List found commercial exposure with their follow up release, “The Drive In,” which appeared in early 2011. The mixtape blended elements of hip-hop, techno, house, rock, pop and classical influences, resulting in a sonically conscious album that made their legions of new fans dance and think. On April 3, The Dean’s List released their next official project “Generation X” with aveNUE Music Partnerships. The album showcases the growth of the group beyond the college audience, demonstrating a genre bending appreciation for music that can’t be classified as anything but enjoyable. Mixing a combination of socially conscious lyrics and high-energy production, the 17-track compilation will speak to fans of pop, indie rock, hip-hop, techno and country due to the diverse inspirations of the three band members. Often labeled as Indie Pop, The Dean’s List make their music for an advanced audience that doesn’t identify themselves with anything besides quality songs. The lead single off of the upcoming project will be “YOUTH,” a modernly rebellious anthem that expels the trials of growing older over complexly upbeat production. The track will be followed by a series of singles including the airy “Take Shape” and the confidence-filled “Sex.”
