Who Am I ?
1: Who am I?
Brian Dudolevitch. I’ve been going by “Brian Maverick” with the band for a while now, but truth be told, I kinda like my given name better.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
I play guitar, write tunes, and occasionally sing for The Nuclears. After putting out our first full-length album last year, we decided to release a series of singles in 2012 before we go in and do the next LP in the winter. It’s a cool change of pace to really home in and be completely focused on getting everything you can out of one song instead of concerning yourself with the larger overarching effort of a whole record.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
My old man was in the Navy, and Mick and I moved a lot when we were kids, so I’m from all over the place. Hopefully that’s where I’m going, too.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
Probably the Ramones. Those dudes just kept on going and going full steam even when shit was rough. Their career was full of near-misses and disappointments, but they always persisted where lesser bands woulda called it quits, and it’s great that in the last decade or so they’ve finally gotten the widespread recognition they’ve always deserved. It’s just a shame that that recognition is posthumous for most of them, but more often than not that seems the plight of the truly fucking brilliant. Why is it always this way?
5: What book is your bible?
I’m a little obsessed with George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series; you know, Game of Thrones and all that. I don’t know if that qualifies them as my “bible,” but I’m pretty sure I’m just as anxious for The Winds of Winter to come out as early Christians were when they were waiting around for John of Patmos to hurry the fuck up and finish Revelations already.
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love science fiction, the Washington Capitals, the beach, comic books, Motown, dogs, and good IPAs. I hate raw onions, “Killing Me Softly” by the Fugees, karaoke versions of “Killing Me Softly” by the Fugees, and when the toilet paper roll is on the wrong way so the paper comes out from the back.
7: What is your raison d’être?
To acquaint myself with more French idioms so I don’t have to Google shit during interviews.
8: What is your favorite color?
I like a dark bluish grey, like what the ocean looks like from a plane when it’s all cloudy out.
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
Captain America, especially during Ed Brubaker’s run writing his series in the mid-2000s. The “Civil War” story arc really got to the core of the character, with Captain fucking America actually going up against the US government when he felt they had crossed the line into tyranny. Plus, he punched Adolf Hitler right in his stupid face. How do you beat that?
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
I’m good pretty much anywhere the beers are cheap and the DJs play rock and roll. Breedlove’s “Magic Monday” party at Tammany Hall on the Lower East Side and Twig the Wonderkid’s “Glamdammit” party at the Grand Victory in Williamsburg are both a lot of fun.
11: What turns you on?
Ridiculous interview questions. I’m so hot right now.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
Brian Maverick is the guitarist and songwriter of popular New York City rock n’ roll band, The Nuclears. Having just released their first major music video and filmed a TV pilot, The Nuclears are now gearing up to record their next single.
