Who Am I ?
1: Who am I?
I am Aziz Bouraima. When rapping I go by the alias of Sonny Shotz. I am a third of The Dean’s List.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
I do all the songwriting and rapping in the group. We are currently working on Generation X our latest album.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I was born in the Ivory Coast, grew up in Massachusetts, and I plan on going wherever it is that God wants me to be.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
I’d have to say my bigget hero is my mother. Raising two kids on her own, in a country where the language was unfamiliar to her, is something I will always admire.
5: What book is your bible?
Well the bible is my bible. I sometimes look to different passages in search of guidance and it never fails me.
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love creating and doing things that spark the imagination of others. I hate being told what to create, or having that freedom tainted.
7: What is your raison d’être?
My raison d’être is to influence the minds of my generation, and say things that will have an effect in the world I live in.
8: What is your favorite color?
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
Superman because there’s nothing he cant do, yet he still has a weakness. That makes him relatable to an average person; even if we cant fly or use superhuman strength, we can still strive to be our best despite our flaws.
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
I haven’t really had a chance to experience NYC the way I would like to, but I’ve heard that Lavo is a pretty cool spot.
11: What turns you on?
A girl’s eyes. Romantic, yes, I know.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
Where do you see yourself in three years? The answer would be Grammy’s.
The Dean’s List is an eclectic trio of musicians whose versatile sound appeals to fans indie music to electronic to hip-hop. Comprised of MC/songwriter Sonny Shotz, producer and manager Alexander Mendoza, and producer/engineer Mik Beats, the group arrived on the scene in late 2010 with the release of their debut mixtape “Undeclared.” Following the critical acclaim of the first project, The Dean’s List found commercial exposure with their follow up release, “The Drive In,” which appeared in early 2011. The mixtape blended elements of hip-hop, techno, house, rock, pop and classical influences, resulting in a sonically conscious album that made their legions of new fans dance and think. On April 3rd, The Dean’s List released their next official project “Generation X” with aveNUE Music Partnerships. The album showcases the growth of the group beyond the college audience, demonstrating a genre bending appreciation for music that can’t be classified as anything but enjoyable. Mixing a combination of socially conscious lyrics and high-energy production, the 17-track compilation will speak to fans of pop, indie rock, hip-hop, techno and country due to the diverse inspirations of the three band members. Often labeled as Indie Pop, The Dean’s List make their music for an advanced audience that doesn’t identify themselves with anything besides quality songs. The lead single off of the upcoming project will be “YOUTH,” a modernly rebellious anthem that expels the trials of growing older over complexly upbeat production. The track will be followed by a series of singles including the airy “Take Shape” and the confidence filled “Sex.”
