Who Am I ?
1: Who am I?
I’m an artist. My favorite medium is hair.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
Publicly, I’m a freelance hairstylist. I’m currently working on some really beautiful things with really talented people. Check out my work at http://Dakotaheman.com to see some of the cool stuff I’ve done in Paris and NYC. You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I grew up fast and wild and I never felt right,
In a garden so different from me.
I just never belonged, I just longed to be gone,
So the garden, one day, set me free.
And the flowers I knew, in the fields where I grew,
Were content to be lost in the crowd.
They were common and close, I had no room for growth,
And I wanted so much to branch out.
Hitched a ride with the wind and since he was my friend,
I just let him decide where we’d go.
When a flower grows wild, it can always survive.
Wildflowers don’t care where they grow.
–”Wildflowers” by Dolly Parton
4: Who is your biggest hero?
My biggest heroes are my parents. They have shown me by example how to work with this awkward personality I’ve been given. Yes, I look in the mirror and see them both, and it gets worse every year.
5: What book helps guide your life?
The Little Prince is a major influence in my life. I read it every couple of months and realize something new about the world each time. It reminds me of who I am and keeps my mind young and creative. My favorite guiding quote from the book is: “If you tame me then we shall need each other, you will be unique in all the world to me and I will be unique in all the world to you.” It’s how I feel about people.
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love attention to detail and good work. I hate politics in life. I even just learned that Hasidic Jewish culture has same hierarchy and politics as fashion. Ahhh, it’s everywhere! Eh. Talent shines brighter than money or connections. Check out my favorite brand Chromat for example! (The mickey ears in my photo are Chromat.)
7: What is your raison d’être?
I want a Sunday kind of love while becoming iconic in my own way.
8: What is your favorite color?
I like neutral colors close to nature.
9: Who is your favorite comic?
Denis the Menace is my favorite because he is a major trickster with a super kind heart.
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
It’s on Allen and Delancey, in front of the old bathrooms. There is a bench there where you can sit and watch the traffic race by in all directions. It’s especially amazing when it’s cold and you’re bundled up with your Starbucks and your friends to keeping you warm.
11: What turns you on?
Talent and creativity turn me on. It only ever works when you grow together. This friendly competition is one sure way to continue to grow each other.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
What is the most important thing to you in life? Respect. It is the only real rule. Now forget everything else you know and start thinking outside that box that has been being built around you your whole life!
