Winter 2012-2013

1: How do we know you?

I think people know me best as a singer/songwriter that sprung from the English/Spanish crossover music scene in the early 90′s.

2: What is your latest project?

My latest project is in English. I have a new single out now called “I’m Never Too Far Away,” which will be part of a dual English and Spanish album to be released sometime in February. I’m working with renowned producer Rudy Perez on the project.

3: Where are you living?

Miami, Florida. It is where I’ve always called home. It is also the birthplace of my career.

4: What don’t we know about you?

I think the one thing people probably don’t know about me is how much of a homebody I am espically in light of how much traveling I’ve done over the last 20 years. Especially now that I am a dad- being home is sacred to me.

5: What is your favorite travel destination?

That’s a tough question for me to answer. I’ve been blessed with an international career that has given me the opportunity to travel the world and to enjoy so many beautiful places. I’m closing my eyes right now, and I’m torn between New York City and anywhere in California.

6: What inspires you?

I think whether consciously or unconsciously I’ve always been inspired by an inexplicable passion within. Perhaps it is driven by a combination of faith, hope, and vision.

7: If not yourself, who would you be?

If not myself, in another life of desirable fantasies, I would be a baseball player. Selected from a list of Hall of Famers that I’ve looked up to for years as a fan of the sport.

8: What book is your bible?

The truth is I’ve never been attracted to reading long enough for any book to have a permanent influence on my life.

9: What is your favorite word?

The word I find myself using quite a bit lately, both personally and professionally, is “confidence.”

10: Who is your biggest hero?

My biggest hero was and is my father. He will always be my hero.

11: How would you define success?

I believe success represents the balance of all we are able to achieve throughout our lives.

12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?

What are you most thankful for?

Over the past three decades, three-time Grammy Award winner Jon Secada has had an astonishing career selling over 20 million records worldwide, touring the world and releasing 18 studio albums in both English and Spanish. Adored by millions around the world, Secada is recognized as an international superstar by both fans and peers for his soulful and melodic voice. After taking a brief hiatus from music, the Cuban-American singer-songwriter is back with his latest single, “I’m Never Too Far Away.”

“I’m Never Too Far Away” commemorates the 20th anniversary of Seacda’s music career and the release of his official RIAA Gold hit “Just Another Day.” The song also marks Secada’s first collaboration with Billboard Magazine’s five time “Producer of the Year,” and six time ASACAP “Songwriter of the Year” winner, Rudy Perez. Once they hit the studio, the dynamic duo forged an immediate chemistry and in just a short time created an uplifting ballad, which stays true to Secada’s signature and timeless sound.

Secada’s impact goes beyond music as he has devoted himself to assisting various charitable groups all over the world through his personal organization, “Jon Secada Charities.” He has been active with many causes that aid Hispanic Americans, children, education, AIDS research, and victims of child abuse. His commitment to education and helping others led him to create the Jon Secada Music Scholarship at the University of Miami. Secada’s also led an ongoing effort to raise awareness for Hepatitis C by partnering with pharmaceutical giant MERCK and The American Liver Foundation. For his efforts, The Pan American Health Organization recently acknowledged Secada with an award that acknowledged him as a leader in Hepatitis C awareness around the world.
