NYFW DAY FIVE
A Look at Day Five of NYFW
By Eden Herbstman
3, 2, 1, start your engines! Phillip Lim brought the racetrack to the runway for his F/W 13 collection. The designer elevated casual sportswear to chic sophistication. Structured jackets and leather vests were layered with heavy furs and paired with amazing cross body messenger bags, (calling shot gun on the black with colorful fur!) Upgrading the traditional race track suit for light denim with black leather boots, I think Lim is the first designer to make Nascar trendy. Quilts seemed to be the day’s popular material, showing up on the runway for Theysken’s Theory. Above the knee shorts and skirts made for a sexy balance to oversized sweaters and tops. Marc by Marc Jacobs debuted a more grown up collection while still remaining playful and corky. Dark lips and teased out bed head hair accented high waisted pencil skirts, paired with bold prints and button downs. Anna Della Russo, Terry Richardson, and model Jessica Stam were all in attendance. And lastly, the always entertaining Betsey Johnson made everyone want to get physical. BJ sure showed us she can still kick some A, bringing fun to athletic wear with bright colors and patterns. Any workout that comes with a bottle of champagne, and Betsey herself as the instructor, sounds good to me.
