A Look at Day Four of NYFW

Winter 2012-2013

Day Four of NYFW, also known as “D Day,” for Donna Karan, Derek Lam, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Cara Delevingne. First on the agenda was DKNY, where the queen of NYC debuted a collection collaborating with Opening Ceremony, bringing back a few pieces from the 1990′s.Everything about the collection was fresh, playful, and classic downtown NYC. Red and pink cheetah spotted oversized sweaters paired with beanie caps created a young urban feel. One of the best music mixes of the week so far, models strutted their stuff to mash ups from Azealia Banks,  Rhianna and Papa Roach. (It even had super stylist Mary Alice Stephenson bopping her head.) It doesn’t get more New York when Donna Karan comes out to Biggie Smalls rapping over Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.” Camel, white, and black seemed to be the popular color palette, later incorporating cool blues with geometric patterns. Derek Lam also utilized a similar color selection, but went for a more classic minimal feel. Last of the day was Diane Von Furstenberg, who transported us back to the 70′s. Classic suede wrap dresses, billowy sleeves, and bright colored lips were sent down the runway. “She’s inspiring, and an incredible woman. I think it really gave me a solid business ethic and focus,” said Olivia Palermo before the show, and formal DvF employee. Also in attendance  were Carine Roitfeld, Katherine McPhee, Chelsea Handler with beau Andre Balazs, and Coco Rocha.
