Who Am I ?
FRANCINE “THE LUCID DREAM”
1: Who am I?
I am Francine “The Lucid Dream” (Francine Daveta). I am a singer, photographer, and burlesque performer. I am also the producer of The Pink Room: David Lynch Burlesque.
2: What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
I am a bit of a renaissance woman these days. I have been trying to work on projects that combine all of my skills. I’m excitedly gearing up for The Pink Room’s two-year anniversary show and a new band with fellow singer, photographer, redhead, and burlesque performer, Bettina May. I am also planning some studio recordings and music videos with Schaffer the Darklord.
3: Where are you from and where are you going?
I started off with a cinema and photography background. I have always been inspired by film–you might see that many of my self-portraits have a film noir element to them. Great cinematography has really influenced me. My interests are however, now drawing me to performing both in front of the camera and on the stage. I’m anxiously awaiting the release of James Gray’s Lowlife in which I play a 1920’s burlesque dancer. One of the highlights of the production was when Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner came to see the burlesque show that we put on for the cast and crew.
4: Who is your biggest hero?
David Lynch because he is one of the biggest risk takers I know of and because he does not limit himself as an artist. Not only does he write and direct but he is also an actor, painter, sculptor, and musician. As someone who likes to juggle many things at once, I appreciate his passion.
5: What book is your bible?
I still look toThe Secret Diary of Laura Palmeras a reminder of the trials of youth, but lately I have been guided by two books which were recommended to me by Mr. Showbiz himself, Murray Hill. These books are Stripping Gypsy by Noralee Brankel and Woman & Money by Suze Orman. Both books have helped me recognize my value as a performer
6: What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love glamour but I hate the idea of taking glamour so seriously that it becomes the most important thing in the world. Kindness and acceptance will always trump glamour.
7: What is your raison d’être?
If I can inspire someone in any way, then I feel successful. If I make someone laugh or feel sexy, I’m happy. I want to inspire other people to take chances and to live their life to their full potential.
8: What is your favorite color?
9: Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
Has Neil Gaiman turned Amanda Palmer into a comic book superhero yet? If not, he should!
10: What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
The Exley in Williamsburg. It’s still so new that I can get a table there. Plus the bartender is pretty cute.
11: What turns you on?
Watching The Pink Room scene in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me while I add Swarovski crystals to my costumes.
12: What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
Francine, would you like to be a guest columnist for PMC Magazine? The answer would be…
Francine is the leader of the David Lynch Burlesque cult. The cult’s demise will be set off by a mass donut consumption if the networks do not return with a third season of Twin Peaks.
