Who Am I ?
1. Who am I?
My name”s Vlad Grach and I am a photojournalist who covers entertainment news and live concerts. I am the photo editor for Broken Records magazine and a contributor to other media outlets.
2. What do you do and what project are you currently working on?
My job is really similar to any job at an editorial desk but with a lot less responsibility. I write my own articles and take the images for them too. I also shoot some of Broken Records magazine”s covers. Sometimes, I”m in charge of getting photo passes for the other photographers who shoot for us. And honestly, I kind of just do whatever falls into my lap at any given time.
3. Where are you from and where are you going?
I was born in Kiev, Ukraine. I moved to New York City when I was 5. And, now I just go wherever life takes me. In general, I”ll be happy in any state or country just as long as I”ve got a means to continue photographing concerts. I think I”m living my ideal life right now. And am very happy with the way things have turned out. I just want to keep going and growing.
4. Who is your biggest hero?
I have a few. Adam Elmakias is one of my hero”s. He works on tour with a few rock bands and his images are great. I also really look up to Kevin Mazur of WireImage and GettyImage. I think that the access he gets is amazing. And, I”d love to have access like that. I have also had the opportunity to meet and even work with a few entertainment photographers that I really respect; Shout out to Keeyahtay Lewis of Deadbolt Photo”s, Dana Distortion Yavin, Joe Papeo of www.irocktheshot.com, Marie Havens of www.patrickmcmullan.com, Laura Olson and Scott Vollweiler of Broken Records Magazine, Annie Atlasman, and Matt Christine.
5. What book is your bible?
I”m not a book reader at all. But, I love magazines. I can immerse myself into a magazine for hours. Often times if I”m sitting around I usually have a paper version of a Alternative Press Magazine or a Rolling Stone Magazine. Sometimes I don”t even read the articles, I just like to look at the images.
6. What are some things you love? And some things you hate?
I love that feeling I get when I”m waiting to photograph a concert, right before the band walks onto the stage. It”s called excitement. And I just love it. I consider myself a cat guy but can get along with most animals unless they”re trying to eat me. I love Ferrero Rocher chocolates, Dragon Eye Oolong Tea, lobster, billiards, lounging around and listen to music, playing video games such as BattleRoyal and Skyrim, and the company of my best friends.
I hate any type of negativity or unkindness. I”m not a big fan of eating cheese without the rest of the sandwich. And, I hate goodbyes.
7. What is your raison d’être?
My raison d’être is entertainment photography, my best friends, and my family.
8. What is your favorite color?
It”s definitely blue. ANY shade of blue.
9. Who is your favorite comic book superhero?
I”m not really the type who likes comic books. I”m more of a anime guy.
10. What is your favorite NYC hot spot?
It”s Times Square, and Madison Square Garden.
11. What turns you on?
That”s a funny question; God, I don”t know. Sometimes a pretty face and a great body is enough. But, most of the time ambition turns me on. Or foreplay. Lol.
12. What would the last question of this questionnaire be if you were the one asking?
So, it”d have to be this; “When you think about what your dream life would be like, what comes to mind?”
